The Harbinger: A Fiction with Some Truth

Jonathan Cahn’s The Harbinger is a prophetic Christian style novel that blends fiction with biblical nonfiction. The story follows a man who receives nine puzzling seals from a mysterious figure known as The Prophet. Each seal shows a “harbinger”, which is a warning sign that Cahn believes connects ancient Israel’s judgement, which is in Isaiah 9:10, to events in modern-day America. The events Cahn mentions are the 9/11 disaster and the 2008 financial collapse.

Although written as a narrative, I feel the purpose of this book is to communicate to us a message from God, who is calling us (America) to repentance. This calling shows patterns that mirror biblical prophecy and I feel that you as a reader will find the connections in this book captivating and spiritually moving. I also think that the fictional part of the book combined with the nonfictional may weaken what is being told and/or may confuse you as to what is true and what is not. After reading this novel, it would definitely help you if you read God’s word, especially the verses identified in the story and at the end of the book.

Whether or not you agree with Cahn’s prophetic connections, this book invites reflection on repentance, humility, and seeking God in turbulent times, in which I truly believe we ALL should do!
